About

Welcome to Bradley Parish Council

Officially known as Bradleys Both, the Parish consists of two settlements, Low and High Bradley. At the last census, the Parish had a population of 1244 living in 542 households. Low Bradley, the major settlement, consists of a conservation area of stone built properties, the oldest of which dates back to the 16th century; and a more recent area mostly built between about 1900 and 1970.
Agriculture originally provided the community with a steady source of employment, but this has declined over the last 50 years. There is no industry in the village itself, but an industrial estate on the Parish boundary with Skipton provides much varied employment.
The Parish Council comprises seven unpaid Councillors and one part time paid Clerk. The Council owns and maintains the playing fields with sports pavilion, the non-denominational cemetery and the amenity area by the canal. It has also taken responsibility for cutting most of the grass verges in the village.
Recent projects have included the complete refurbishment of the sports pavilion and the replacement of trees on the playing fields. Currently, the Council is drafting a Neighbourhood Plan which will give the Parish a legal right to influence the course of future housing development in the village.
Its activities are funded by the “precept”, an annual charge averaging about £30 per household, which is collected with the council tax.
The Village Hall is run separately by its own charitable trust, partly supported by the Council.
The council is totally independent, but works closely with the Craven District and North Yorkshire County Councils. It is the first tier of local government and, therefore in the best position to represent the village.

Meetings are held monthly on the third Tuesday of every month [except August], normally at 7.30pm. Our representative Councillors for Craven District and North Yorkshire usually attend as well. Meetings are formal, but residents are always welcome to come, listen and voice any concerns. Issues raised will be dealt with by the Council, if they are already on the agenda for that meeting, or will be placed on the agenda of the next meeting for discussion.

Agendas and minutes for meetings are published on this website.
